The Dogberries originated in 1995 when core members Jack Daw and Charlie Barfoot formed the band as a vehicle to perform their original compositions. Today it is a 5 piece group: Jack Daw, Charlie Barfoot, Rob Lee, Craig Noseworthy & Don Boland.
Although eclectic in style, their original compositions have been described as “contemporary jazz folk” by some while others have referred to their music as “smooth jazz with a distinctive Newfoundland flavour”.
The Dogberries first CD “Sun and Games” was nominated “Jazz group of the Year “during the East Coast Music Awards in 1999. Their second CD “Out of the Ashes” was also well received being nominated in blues and jazz category by the Music Industry Association in 2002. In August of 2009 they release a third CD entitled “Salt Water Jazz”. All the recordings have received considerable air play on local and national radio and TV stations.
The Dogberries continue to stay true to their quest to compose, record, and perform their unique style of music. Most recently they appeared at An Evening with Premier Paul Davis at The Sheraton ballroom (April 2015).
The Dogberry Duo (Jack Daw – double bass & Charlie – acoustic guitar) also play wedding receptions and special events. They are part of the regular rotation at the Crow’s Nest.
